What is financial counselling?

Financial counsellors are trained professionals who guide you through your options and can help you plan your way out of debt. We can assist you to gain control of your financial situation.

What can a financial counsellor do?

Our qualified financial counsellors can help you address financial matters by providing:

  •  an assessment of your financial situation

  • strategies for communicating and negotiating with creditors

  • options for dealing with debt

  • advocacy with your creditors in certain circumstances

  • information on concessions and rebate entitlements

  • providing advice and information on consumer rights and obligations

  • information about bankruptcy

  • specialist financial counselling for social housing tenants

  • specialist financial counselling for people affected by gambling harm

  • support and referrals to other services you may need

You can then make your own informed decisions about how to manage your situation with the advice you've been given.

Financial counsellors do not:
  • charge any fees for service

  • complete tax returns. But, we can refer you for tax help.

  • provide investment advice (that's the role of financial planners)

The service saved me from financial ruin and for the first time in 20 years I’m debt free
