Community Outreach Energy Hardship Program

The ACT Government’s City and Environment Directorate has partnered with Care to help reduce energy hardship for low-income and vulnerable households in the ACT in the following ways:

Energy Support Payments

Care can provide $100 Energy Support Payments to eligible households and referrals to support or resources to assist households in managing their energy. To be eligible for a payment, applicants must live in the ACT and be open to receiving information on available support and resources for their circumstances.

If you would like to discuss your eligibility for an Energy Support Payment to your gas or electricity account, please complete the enquiry form below, contact us on 1800 007 007 or email admin@carefcs.org.

Supporting Community Organisations

Care offers training and information sessions to help community organisations identify and respond to energy hardship within their community as well as increase awareness of support for households facing energy hardship.

If you would to explore how we can help your organisation, please complete the enquiry form below, contact us on 1800 007 007 or email admin@carefcs.org.

Access to Electric Program

This program aims to help homeowners who most need support to switch their appliances from gas to electric. Making this switch can improve energy efficiency, reduce energy costs, and increase thermal comfort for households.

The program fully funds electrification and energy efficiency upgrades in eligible households, including:

  • Replacing all existing gas appliances with efficient electric appliances (heating and cooling, water heating, cooktops).

  • Installing ceiling insulation (where required).

All participating households will be fully electrified and permanently disconnected from the gas network.

Unsure if you are eligible? Complete the self-assessment tool to check, and find out more information here: Access to Electric Program - Climate Choices

ActewAGL Energy Support Voucher Program

Responding to a spike in energy prices in 2017, the ACT Government, ActewAGL and Care developed the Energy Support Voucher Program. Through this program we can:

  • request a $100 voucher off gas or electricity bills for ActewAGL customers (please note eligibility criteria applies)

  • with your consent, discuss options with the Staying Connected hardship program

  • complete an independent review your energy bill

  • assist with referrals to other support programs within Care

  • refer to other ACT Government or local energy support programs

If you would like to discuss your eligibility, please complete the enquiry form below, contact us on 1800 007 007 or email energy@carefcs.org

I keep a fairly close eye on my budget and I still learnt a few new things during this session. I found it really valuable - thank you.
