
Assistance Beyond Crisis
Have you been impacted and left a domestic or family violence situation?
The Assistance Beyond Crisis (ABC) loan program provides no-interest loans to people who have experienced and left domestic or family violence. To qualify, you must live or work in the ACT or nearby NSW (within 100km). Loans cover essential expenses when other financial options are unavailable, including:

Housing-related costs

Medical/dental expenses

Electrical/electronic items
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility requirements:

Have experienced and left a domestic or family violence situation

Live or work in the ACT or nearby NSW region.

If you do not live or work in the ACT or nearby NSW, find your nearest NILS provider through Good Shepherd NILS.

Have a moderate income (about $50,000–$100,000 per year)
How much can you borrow?
You can apply to borrow up to $5,000, with a maximum loan term of 3 years. The final loan amount is determined by a Loans Caseworker's assessment. If your purchase or service costs more than your approved loan, you must pay the difference yourself.
How long is the loan term?
ABC loans must be repaid within 24–36 months. If you need to change payment amounts, contact the team in advance.
Application process
Complete and submit a referral form* before making an appointment.
You can get a referral from Community Service Organisations supporting people impacted by domestic violence, including:

Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS)

Employee Assistance Program

Allied health services or medical professionals
Community Organisations can find referral forms on our website, or contact the Loans Caseworker at (02) 6257 1788 or loans@carefcs.org.
*You can apply for an ABC loan directly, even without a referral form from these organisations.
After we receive your referral form or application, a Loans Caseworker will contact you.
