Consumer Law Clinic is a joint initiative of Care Consumer Law and the Australian Government solicitor.
 

We provide free and confidential information, legal advice and referral on a range of consumer law, fair trading and debt enforcement issues, including:

  • Australian Consumer Law

  • contracts, including door to door sales and unfair contract terms

  • consumer protections under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009

  • disputes with credit providers and debt collectors

  • financial abuse

  • insurance products

  • bankruptcy

  • complaints relating to debt collectors

We can assist you with: 

  • legal advice about your rights and responsibilities 

  • help with completing court documents such as: 

    • From 2.52 Statement of Enforcement Debtor's Financial Position​

    • An application to amend, suspend, or set aside enforcement orders

    • An application for an instalment order

  • help in negotiations with enforcement creditors 

  • provide referrals to other services if required

Please note, our lawyers will not provide advice on matters where: 

  • the debt is owed to the Commonwealth of Australia (e.g: the ATO or Centrelink) 

  • the Commonwealth of Australia is involved

  • the debt is business related

When: The clinic is open (appointment only) every second Friday from 9:30am to 12 noon
